What is Edge Computing?

Edge computing is when data collected from the sensors is not being computed centrally in the cloud, but rather stored and computed on the Edge devices (nodes) of an IoT network. Thus we can look at Edge computing as some kind of cloud computing optimization method, since some part of the IoT application is shifted on the Edge which is actually in contact to the physical world. Why would we now go back to computing on the Edge of the network when we have all moved to the cloud? There are numerous reasons, but one of them is definitely the…

What is a digital twin?

I’ll give you one of the definitions I liked the most: “The digital twin is the virtual representation of a physical object or system across its life-cycle. It uses real-time data and other sources to enable learning, reasoning, and dynamically re-calibrating for improved decision making”. Digital twin concept is present since 2003. and it was used by NASA for pairing of technologies for its Apollo missions. Idea behind digital twins is to make sure that outages and system breakdowns are reduced to the bare minimum. How to achieve this? Well, this digital replica uses software analytics for all the historical and…

Senet – company review

We have already been writing about LoRa vs. Sigfox and about NB-IoT, but what triggered me to write review about Senet and about their business model is the idea of becoming LoRaWAN network operator. Sigfox, as a company, is taking care so that the local Sigfox operators can build up the network in a right way. MNOs would  just need to make SW upgrade of their existing LTE network to get NB-IoT or LTE-M working since they are already using all the other elements an operator needs. I have been asking myself what about LoRa, it’s an open standard, there’s a…

All that data can then be used by algorithms or other software and turned into various insights, reports or automatic predefined actions. This artilce  lists several farm management platforms and also companies that are selling smart fungicides, using bio growth stimulants, selling…
