According to recent news the answer is yes. Apple, Google and Amazon have been working on a new standard called CHIP. I am mostly into enterprise IoT solutions, but I think this could be a big one for the complete IoT industry.
CHIP creates an interoperable layer where smart home devices from different vendors can talk to one another. This is very important because currently the smart home market is very segmented between various vendors and protocols such as ZigBee, Thread, Bluetootk, WiFi, LoRa etc.
Smart home users today are typically people who do DIY (Do it yourself) projects i.e. they are experienced in working with technology. Most people however don’t like DIY, they would like to have a plug ‘n play home and this could be a big step forward.
Here is the article describing it in more details.
